Precision Radiotherapy expands their growing oncology presence at University Pointe

Miller-Valentine Construction is completing a third Linear Accelerator project for Precision Radiotherapy. The clinical-care treatment facility will be used for research and education as well as a treatment center for people with cancer and benign tumors.

Miller-Valentine Construction worked closely with GBBN Architects to design the 9,600 SF addition to the existing facility. The current expansion required the design and construction of the customized linear accelerator vault that has heavily reinforced six-foot thick concrete walls so radiation stays inside the vault. Throughout the construction process, it was critical to maintain tight construction tolerances that far exceeded industry standards. Miller-Valentine Construction also worked closely with the manufacturers to assure that every mechanical and electrical detail met the stringent requirements of the equipment being installed.

Once complete, renovation will commence on the original 11,000 SF facility, built in 2003, which offers advanced shaped beam radiotherapy for the treatment of brain and solid organ tumors. Areas to be renovated include offices and the records room as well as the addition of a new control area and CT room.

Construction of the addition, as well as the renovation, has occurred during normal business hours, without disruption to patient care or inconvenience to service providers.

Wright State Physicians looks to Miller-Valentine Construction for solutions to improve their patients’ healthcare experience

Times are changing for medical communities everywhere. Consolidating facilities, advancing technologies, creating state-of-the-art practices and reducing healthcare costs are all important changes that must be made to improve patients’ medical-care experience. Wright State Physicians (WSP) was looking for a solution to these facility-related needs and Miller-Valentine Construction was able to help.

WSP is the region’s largest multi-specialty group offering primary and specialty care in a wide range of specialized diagnostic and treatment services. They also partner with WSU Boonshoft School of Medicine to provide training to medical students and deliver health care to the region.

WSP wanted to consolidate multiple practice locations and corporate office space to improve their patients’ medical- care experience and reduce overhead costs. During the consultation process, clear project objectives were established, parameters set and key issues identified.

Miller-Valentine Construction started with a financial analysis to quantify the facility cost of leasing versus ownership. The proposed building design; construction technique; and pricing to value-engineer the facility were also closely examined. Then alternative, creative financing opportunities were identified that met with Wright State Physician’s criteria.

The result was the creation of a new one-stop, state-of-art teaching/practice facility located on the Wright State University campus. In June, the facility will be complete—ahead of schedule and under budget.

Verst warehouse 200,000 SF addition goes “green”

Miller-Valentine Construction just completed a 200,000 SF concrete tilt-up addition to Verst Group Logistics warehouse and distribution center in Hebron, Kentucky. The addition is a mirror image of the existing facility with a matching existing façade.

The new addition doubles the size of the company’s present facility, providing space for increased business in the contract packaging and warehousing divisions. It includes approximately 5,000 SF of office space and 20 docks.

Verst’s goal is to obtain the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver certification. The sustainable design goals include building an efficient building envelope; including water-efficient fixtures and high efficiency HVAC equipment; and providing daylight/light harvesting for the facility.
