Diaper Drive Barclaya 2016

Taking Care of Our Youngest Community Members

Wanting to make a difference in the community for families with infants, Miller-Valentine Group Associates in both the Dayton and Cincinnati offices held a “Diaper Drive” during the end of September for the benefit of Gem City Gives, Corp. Gem City Gives was established in 2011 exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.  The organization launched a diaper bank in 2014 to help fulfill a need in the community — keeping babies clean, dry and healthy.  Their goal is to collect, store and distribute diapers to families with babies who are homeless,  on public assistances,  low income, or have emergency situations. Supporting the National Diaper Need Awareness Week, Miller-Valentine Group held a successful diaper campaign, with Associates donating 4,568 diaper wipes, 2,518 diapers, and $295 in cash contributions. This effort was coordinated by the Miller-Valentine Group Helping Hands committee, a team of Associates who identify and provide opportunities for Miller-Valentine Associates to engage in community service.

Why You Need to Update Your Commercial Property for Energy Efficiency

Three Reasons You Should Consider Eco-Upgrades for Your Commercial Property “In the future, every industry should be an environmental industry.”  It has been a decade since David Miliband, then UK Secretary of State for the Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs, shared his thoughts at an environmental industries conference, and in the years since then, companies around the world have embraced the concept of more sustainable operations. Bringing legacy commercial properties up-to-date with energy-efficient upgrades, however, can be a financial and logistical challenge. What makes it worth the effort? Why You Need to Update Your Commercial Property for Energy Efficiency You don’t have to be an eco-warrior to embrace the advantages that come from energy-efficiency improvements. Here are three reasons why. You could get 100 percent capital funding for energy efficiency upgrades—without writing a check—through the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Program. A national program launched in 2009, PACE encourages property owners to make energy efficiency upgrades (EEUs) for a wide range of property types. The State of Ohio adopted the program to enable Ohio municipalities and townships to help property owners with financing for solar, geothermal, wind, biomass, gasification and energy-efficiency projects—and Dayton is one such municipality to support the (more)

NuVasive Expands Locally

When San Diego-based medical device company NuVasive wanted to expand operations with a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, its Fairborn site lacked the flexibility needed for growth. Miller-Valentine Group’s team of experts stepped into the fray, providing NuVasive with a real estate solution that empowered the manufacturer to make the most time- and cost-effective choice; one that not only saved the existing jobs but will bring an additional 200 jobs to our region. How did NuVasive reach its decision? Denny Whitehead, Miller-Valentine Group senior vice president in the Dayton market attributes the site selection to the combined efforts of local government officials who put forward attractive incentives to keep NuVasive in the region, as well as the collaboration among Miller-Valentine’s brokerage, construction, development, and property management teams. Miller-Valentine structured a team to meet NuVasive’s budget as well as tackle an aggressive time-frame to complete the new manufacturing facility. Gerry Smith, senior vice president, Miller-Valentine Group Realty Services, assessed their needs, pinpointing three potential sites suitable for renovation.  The construction group conducted a renovation vs. new construction cost analyses, and the property management professionals weighed in, helping to narrow the choice.  Based on a combination of the estimated renovation costs along with long-term (more)

Everyone at the company has a stake in safety.” Management constantly challenges all Associates to apply, train, inspect and monitor safety practices in order to ensure safety on construction job sites.”  Making Workplace Safety Part of the Corporate Culture Achieving an outstanding safety record comes as a result of hard work. Rather than simply collecting food items for the community, a friendly competition encouraging departments to build “movie themed” images was implemented throughout the company. Structures were assembled representing both older and newer movies, including Jaws, Ghostbusters, Batman vs. Superman, Up, Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, San Andreas, and Captain America (see them all here). The food drive and the competition were very successful, with the local community being the ultimate winner: Dayton Foodbank: 1,062 cans donated 1,191 pounds Mason Food Pantry: 2,213 items donated (2,021 were cans) Approximately 3,050 pounds Company totals: 3,275 items donated weighing 4,241 pounds (approximately 2 tons) This is the 3rd year Associates have participated in the friendly and successful competition. In 2015 over 3,000 food items were donated. Click here for further information on Miller-Valentine Group Community Involvement.
