Helping Hands of Miller-Valentine Group Reach Out to Local Classroom
March 27, 2013 – Although public schools are funded by the state, many teachers find it a challenge to keep their classrooms stocked with supplies. The Associates of Miller-Valentine Group recognized this as an opportunity to lend a hand and give back to their local community.
Lisa McCartha, head of the Helping Hands and Making People First Committee, reached out to Monica Holten at Lake Murray Elementary School regarding her 1st grade classroom and their supply needs. Ms. Holten was glad to provide a list of supplies, some of which they were already out of or running low on. After a few short days, the Associates of Miller-Valentine Group contributed, collected and delivered boxes of copy paper, clip boards, crayons, pencils, and highlighters amongst other standard classroom supplies to a thankful teacher and students.
This effort was just one in a series of quarterly outreaches within the community. The Miller-Valentine Helping Hands Committee selects a local charitable organization or need and then gets involved. This initiative is a reflection of their corporate belief of being a model corporate citizen in the communities they serve and provides an opportunity for their associates to engage in community service.
